Lady Firebirds Rise to the Occasion, Win UDC Classic

Washington, DC: November 23, 2008—The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds were gracious hosts this weekend, but that didn’t let their genteel hospitality get in the way of the business at hand, as they rose to the occasion and won the 2nd Annual UDC Women’s Basketball Classic this afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. UDC’s sophomore forward Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) was voted the Most Valuable Player in the Classic, scoring a total of 27 points and grabbing 20 rebounds to lead the Lady Firebirds to the championship.

UDC Student re-elected in ANC race

	Like most UDC students, India Henderson is a working adult. Both a junior and Biology major, her schedule can be hectic. However, India has another
duty that makes her unique to many young women her age. Endowed with not only brains and beauty, the twenty-one year old also has heart—for her community.

UDC Concludes Successful Voter Registration Drive

	A few weeks ago Acting Coordinator of Student Outreach, Colin Touhey, was made aware of a startling statistic. A recent survey had indicated that only
approximately 30 percent of eligible UDC students were registered to vote. In the midst of one of history’s most critical elections, Touhey knew this had to change. So he called on student leaders, clubs and organizations and even Big Tigger, and the WPGC radio station to aid in one of the largest UDC voter registration drives in recent history.
